The City That Trees Built
BIKE PATROL
The Department currently has 2 bicycles and 2 officers trained for police bike patrol. The Bike Patrol Unit consists of Lead Detective Karl Nelson and School Resource Officer Steven Arsenault. The Bicycle Patrol Unit is a valuable resource, allowing access to areas not previously accessible by the conventional police cruiser. The bicycle patrol unit also increases communication between our officers and the citizens they encounter during their patrol. We realize that this communication is key to building a strong bond between the community we serve and our department.

In addition the bike patrol unit has had positive impact on parks, playgrounds, walking paths, and other areas where patrol efforts may be hindered by patrol cruisers, allowing citizens to utilize these areas without fear of crime. Penetrating problem areas and utilizing high visibility, proactive enforcement procedures to eliminate the problems have accomplished this. We fully enforce all state and local laws while proactively educating potential offenders.

It is our belief that by incorporating mobility, visibility, interaction and proactive law enforcement techniques a bicycle patrol officer can positively affect the everyday workings of a police department and its impact on the community.

Safety Message:
“Be a safe cyclist. When biking, ride smart and observe all traffic laws and rules of the road. Make sure that you always wear a helmet and encourage other riders to do the same.”
