I never dreamed it would be me. My name for all eternity, Recorded here at this hallowed place. Alas, my name, no more my face.
"In the Line of Duty" I hear them say. My family now the price to pay. My folded flag stained with their tears. We only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest. I sleep now in eternal rest. My sword I pass to those behind And pray they keep this thought in mind.
I never dreamed it would be me. And with a heavy heart and bended knee, I ask for all here from the past... Dear God, let my name be the last. |
The Rotary Club of the White Mountains, in conjunction with the "Call to Duty" Memorial Committee, has done various fundraising to acquire funds for a police memorial, which has been placed at the front entrance of the Berlin Police Department. While this has proved to be an ambitious project, we believe the two-thirds life size, painstakingly detailed statue is a tribute to the Berlin officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The safety of any community falls exclusively into the hands of the men and women who serve on our Police Department. Tragedy occurs without warning, and while this memorial honors those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, it also pays tribute to all who have served, who do so now, and who will continue to do so in the future.
The memorial is named, "Call to Duty." Brodin Studios, Inc., based in Minneapolis, MN, was selected to create the two-thirds life size bronze statue of a police officer. The statue is a single figure, Berlin uniformed officer, on one knee; a folded flag is cradled in one hand, and his head is down. The names of the three Berlin officers who died in the line of duty are engraved on plaques and placed on the base of the statue.
As of this date, we have raised enough to fund the statue and base, but are still continuously looking for donations for the ongoing maintenance of the statue and the landscaping surrounding the memorial. We are also in the process of establishing a scholarship funded by the Police Memorial funds.
In order to properly recognize contributors, a six-inch miniature of the memorial will be provided to each contributor of $2,500 or more, and this donation can be paid over a two-year period. It is also anticipated that contributors of $500 or more will be recognized on a bronze plaque, which will be placed in the lobby of the facility. Engraved paver bricks are available to contributors of $100 or more, and each brick can be laser engraved with up to three lines of type and/or a logo. For those of you interested in purchasing a paver brick, please download our order form (The free Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed to view the file).
Please be aware that this campaign is independent of any city or state funding, and your contribution to the "Call to Duty" fund raiser will be sincerely appreciated. If you would like additional information about the project, a member of our committee will be glad to meet with you at your convenience. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Alan J. Tardif, Chair
June Ann Kelliher, Co-Chair
