Police Service Dog (K9)
The Berlin Police Department currently employs a Police Service Dog, otherwise referred to as a K-9 Unit. The Unit consists of a dual-purpose Police K-9 and Handler. The K-9 and Handler team has undergone an extensive training and certification process, and must maintains a minimum of 16 hours a month of in-service training to keep their certification active. The K-9 Unit is part of the Patrol Division and can be deployed for special missions to include; narcotics detection, article recovery, area searches, human tracking, and criminal apprehension. The K-9 Unit can also offers educational demonstrations at local events.
