Sewer Billing Information

The sewer bill pays for the City's annual cost of operating, maintaining, and repairing the wastewater treatment plant, sanitary sewer pipe network and pumping stations. The sewer bill is calculated by using the total of the quarterly water consumption for the Spring, Summer, and Fall (April through December) from the previous year as measured by meter readings. A fixed rate ($7.24 for residential, $9.05 for commercial) is then mutliplied times the number of 100 cubic feet of your measured water consumption.

The City bills for sewer once a year each Spring.  An 8% interest is added to payments made after the due date on the bill.

What if I have a well? How will my Sewer Bill be calculated?

If you have a well and you choose to install a well meter you must obtain a Well Meter Installation Permit from the City of Berlin Public Works Office at no cost.  Your well meter will be read annually by the Public Works Department to determine your yearly consumption. Newly built residential dwellings or commercial properties which use a well must have a Well Meter Installed.

More information on wells for sewer calculations can be found in the City of Berlin Ordinance, Chapter 16, Article III, Utilities-Division 4, Rates and Charges, Section 16-117 through Section 16-131
